DOG CONTROL OFFICER
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An employee in this class is responsible for carrying out the provisions of the Agriculture and Markets Law dealing with the seizing, impounding and destroying of stray and dangerous dogs or other animals. the work is performed under the direction of the Village Clerk and Treasurer or Village Manager with wide leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in the handling of individual cases or complaints.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Seizes and impounds stray and dangerous dogs;
Destroys unclaimed and dangerous dogs in accordance with provisions of law;
Receives complaints from the public regarding dog nuisances;
Attempts to locate owners of seized dogs to return and collect fines;
Maintains records of work performed and makes reports to governing board.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of laws and regulations dealing with the seizing, impounding and destroying of stray and dangerous dogs; good knowledge of local geography; ability to meet and deal with the public; resourcefulness and dependability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of grade school.
SALARY: $4,000-$6,000 annually
